When Ty Pennington, ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition host and the deserving DeVries family cried out, “Move that Bus!” they were welcomed to the shows first green build design using a permanent wood foundation. Before the arrival of the Emmy winning show’s team, the DeVries family’s home suffered from mold and dampness creating an unhealthy living environment, especially for Susan DeVries who suffers from serious health conditions. Now their basement area will be as dry, warm and healthy as any other room in their new makeover home.

Permanent wood foundations (PWF) are also a “green” friendly way to build. Since wood is a renewable resource the use of PWFs actually reduces the carbon footprint.

“Wood products take five times less energy to produce than an equivalent amount of cement,” said Tom Milton, an Engineered Wood Specialist with APA–The Engineered Wood Association.  “Numerous studies have confirmed that over their entire life cycle, wood framed buildings are far more environmentally friendly than homes constructed with concrete and metal, making wood the most sustainable building material over the product’s life cycle,” added Milton.
